The fun part

There's nothing more entertaining for me then going to the supermarket with Dad. I usually have these great moments of glee where I just stand, laugh and watch the scenarios he brings about.

Dad has this thing for cents. He doesn't mind spending extra dollars, but its the cents he hoards and hates to lose.
It was Gabe's birthday recently, and someone forgot to buy icecream. We went to Coles where we squeezed through the thronging crowds in the late afternoon buying their Sundays supply of sustenance, and made our way to the checkout, refreshment clutched.

The blonde checkout woman was a little stumped when Dad decided she had the wrong price on screen. It was OVER a dollar more then expected. She got a minion man to check and in the meantime Dad happily suggested she would give it to him free if the price was wrong. She agreed but unfortunately those hopes were dashed. I told him that he should have to pay extra for their trouble. I don't think those words reached him, for at the same moment they left my mouth, something clicked and he decided to find a cheaper ice-cream.

We squeezed through the throngs again. We saw the minion who had checked out the price for us, and Dad decided to corral him back to show us exactly where we got it wrong. I was grinning widely by that time. The man looked slightly as if Dad was pulling him by the ear. Customers. It's a love-hate relationship.

Dad and I went back through the sea of food and people where we ended up paying a total of 29 cents less then the first for all our trouble.

OH no. We love it, at least i do. Cherish might have spasms of pain when out with Dad sometimes. I think the rest of us survive it really well.

The stingyness sometimes clears for a bit.
Like yesterday when we wwere getting stuff for Cherish's birthday party. Dad paid over $5 for the ice-cream -and 3.50 for that tiny box of strawberries.

I know. It must have been a good day financially for Dad.
